We’re having a yarn contest for Plymouth’s Linen Concerto! I’m obsessed with this yarn. Plymouth, as a company, has always impressed me with their higher end stock, and this Linen Concerto is no exception. I picked up fifteen balls of this to test a (soon to be released!) baby blanket pattern I’d had running around in my brain, and I can’t believe how much joy this yarn has brought me. It’s soft and strong, with a subtle thick and thin texture. The occasional (very occasional) slub just adds a touch of rough-hewn texture without throwing off gauge. I can’t imagine this will ever do well for lace, but for a cabled or textured piece? Wow. Just… wow.
Now, I’m a woman who has NEVER enjoyed knitting with cotton. I dislike the feel of it on my fingers. I find it too heavy a fiber to truly enjoy, as my personal tastes lean heavily towards the buttery Malabrigo merinos and basically anything made from silk. However, this blend has my full and undivided attention! I’m presently working it up into a baby blanket (a pattern is in the works! That’s a whole special story all on its own.) and I know I will have enough left over for some matching products. And, of course, a ball to share with you!
I’m working with their cream colorway, but I hope to get my hands on a goodly lot of “Fog” as well. One of my favorite features is the simplicity of the yarn. It’s wonderful to find a good quality blend that doesn’t try too hard to be better than it needs to. Insofar as a yarn can be anthropomorphized, this beauty is a woman who is comfortable in her own skin.
Win a ball of Plymouth’s Linen Concerto in Cream!
I’m so in love with this yarn, in fact, that I’m sharing it with one lucky yarn freak. Leave a comment below, telling me what you’d knit with your ball of yarn (it’s in the cream colorway) and you may be randomly chosen to have this delightful yarn in your own stash. The winner will be chosen Friday, September 14th! That’s only two weeks from now!
I’ll be continuing to work with this yarn until the blanket’s done, and I’ll host that free pattern right here on the site! See you again soon!
PS. I’m in no way affiliated with Plymouth Yarns. I just really love this blend, and want to share it with you.
